I took a power nap on the back seat. After our stop at Birmingham, NY at about 600am, I took over the wheels and headed for New York City. There were tolls are tolls. Just like the highways in Klang Valley, Malaysia. As we saw more vehicles on the road, we knew we were getting closer to NYC. We arrived NYC at 800am. We drove around Manhattan, trying to figure out way to the Brooklyn Bridge. There were taxis all over town and people just won't stop honking. They drove as if there were no traffic laws.
After making a few turns, we got into Brooklyn. However, we had no clue how to get to the place where we were going to stay. So we stopped and asked a man by the street for directions. The man appears to be Hispanic and he doesn't speak a lot of English. When I told him we were trying to reach Coney Island Ave in Brooklyn, he took out his own map and started gesturing and pointing. I was lost. I have no idea what he was trying to tell me. Then he got back into his car and signaled, "Follow me." And so I did. Some of the girls were worried if that was the right thing to do. Right in the middle of New York City, we were following a stranger. I assured them and told them that if we appeared to be heading towards somewhere secluded, I will speed off as fast as I can. Hehe. Have faith and believe that there are good Samaritans in the world. The truth is, there is. The man showed us to where we wanted to be. We thanked him and he left without asking for anything. Some of us thought he might ask for money. =P We were lucky.
About 15 mins or so later, we arrived at E 15St, the place where Mr. and Mrs. Lee stays. Mi Ki met both of them a couple years ago during a trip to China. The couple were originally from China and they migrate to the States many many years ago. It was very nice of them for letting us stay a few nights at their place. A little after we arrived, Mr. Lee accompanied Che Ven and I to return the van to Avis. If you remember, I had to return the car within 48 hours or else my mummy will be startled when she sees her credit card bill. Haha. The traffic was bad in Brooklyn. I began to miss the smooth traffic in Bemidji =P Traffic jams. I was so afraid that we won't be able to make it on time. We arrived at Avis on Atlantic Ave about an hour later, just on time.
By the way, in case you were wondering, I didn't confess about the broken plastic. Che Ven hid plastic in her bag when we returned the van and we threw it in a garbage by some street as we were heading to the subway station. While we were taking a bus home, we weren't too sure about subway-bus transfer cards. Mr. Lee wasn't too sure as well because he travels with his senior citizen card. When he tried to clarify with the bus driver, the driver got impatient at Mr. Lee and yelled at him. Sigh. Big city people.
Back in the Lee house, we all finally got to shower after 2 days!! Mrs. Lee prepared us lunch and dinner while we sat and listened to Mr. Lee's recommendations of the must see places in NYC. He also warned us about things that we had to be careful about, repeatedly. Haha. Kinda naggy...but well...he was just being very concerned.
Anyway...we didn't go out at all that day, we rested, watched TVB Hong Kong dramas with Mrs. Lee and enjoyed the homely feeling. By 100am, we were all knocked out.
