May 16, 2006

At about 500am, we checked in our luggages. While I was looking at the no sharp objects sign at the security check point, I suddenly remembered that I had a wine key in my backpack. I didn't want to turn it in to the security officer because it was part of my memory of Tutto Bene. Hence, I decided to risk it. Fortunately, my backpack went through the scanning with no problems. No sharp objects were detected. My wine key was safe =)

In the plane, seven of us sat at random places. Few minutes before the plane was about to take off, I asked one of the NWA air stewardess if the plane was full and if we could switch places. I couldn't remember what her exact response were, but I remembered how rude and obnoxious she was. After the plane took off, we switched places since there were a lot of open seatings. Mandy, Che Ven and I took the 3-seater closed to the exit doors. Not long after, another air stewardess came by and told us that we were not supposed to sit there. She appeared to sound rather offensive, so we stood up to switch places. She then stared at us and said "Do you speak English? Bla..bla..bla...You have to be at least 17 to sit by the exit doors...bla...bla.." We got so pissed at her and Mandy told her that we are all a bunch of 22s and 23s. She kept quiet. As I walking to another seat, I told her, "By the way, we all speak perfectly good English!" No doubt, we felt offended. Probably discriminated is a better word. I hate ignorants. Our skin may be yellow but that doesn't mean that we can't speak English. Stereotypes. Arrgghhh.

Anyway, we arrived in Detroit, Michigan about an hour later. We had another hour of wait before our next connecting flight to Boston. On the flight to Boston, we met the two same rude air stewardess again. How unlucky. One of them actually mistook Pei Shan as me. Ya...we are both yellow skin, petite in size and have long black-brown hair. Duh. She told Pei Shan, "Hey..it's you again..why are you on this flight...shouldn't you be heading to..bla...bla..bla.." Pei Shan was all confused. Oh well. Whatever.

At 100pm Eastern time, we arrived in Boston. We tried to get hold of Yogi through his friend's cellphone but we didn't managed to. So we wandered around the Boston Logan International Airport trying to find information on how to get to our hotel in Wakefield. We tried calling scheduled buses but it didn't work out. We took a taxi instead. It was rather costly but we had to.

We arrived at Best Western Hotel-Lord Wakefield at 300pm and checked in immediately. We ran into some problems at the front desk because they couldn't find our online reservation information. The front desk workers appeared to be stressed out (there were other customers waiting...phone ringing..) that they were being so unfriendly, not only to each other but to us, their customers. Sigh. I was so disappointed with their service. Is it true that people are less friendly in bigger cities? Hmm...I guess so.

All 7 of us bunked in into this room for 4 people. Haha. We tried not to be too loud and get busted. But it was not easy trying to get Fenella and Mi Ki to lower their volumes. Haha. In the hotel, some of us rested and some of us sat down and tried to figure out the transportation system in Boston. An hour later, we headed out. We took Bus 137 to Oak Groove station and then took the Orange line subway all the way to Chinatown. And it rained.

Chinatown was pretty cool. Lots of Asians around. And most importantly, lots of Asian food!! We had dinner in this Hong Kong restaurant and the food was comparable to what we get back in Malaysia. It was yummy-licious. After dinner, we walked around downtown, explored some part of the Freedom Trail and went to Hard Rock Cafe and got some merchandises. At 930pm we left downtown and took the subway back to the station, hoping to make it for the last Bus 137 but only to find out that the last bus was at 920pm. Shucks. We had to take the commuter instead. As I was trying to get down the commuter, I slipped and fell because the stairs were wet from the rain. I hurt the bone right above my butt and my hands and legs were sore =( I had a hard time walking back to the hotel. Back in the hotel, Fenella helped me apply some ointment on my bruises and gave me a good massage. Thanks Girl! At the same time, the rest of us tried to figure out our shower rotations, the next day trip plans and finances.
